For ponds larger than the maximum available single-piece liner dimensions, or for complex pond shapes with streams, waterfalls, and connecting features, joining multiple liner sections is unavoidable. The quality of these seams is critical — a failed seam is often more problematic to locate and repair than a simple puncture.
EPDM Seaming: The Self-Adhesive Tape Method
Materials Required
- EPDM seam tape (typically 75–150mm wide, butyl-based adhesive)
- EPDM primer/cleaner
- Clean rags and solvent wipes
- Seam roller for pressure application
Process
- Overlap the liner sections by a minimum of 150mm (200–300mm for submerged seams)
