Our Story — Why PondLinersco Exists
PondLinersco was born out of frustration — the kind that only comes from genuinely loving something and watching it done badly.
Our founders were pond enthusiasts first, business people second. Between them, they had spent years building, maintaining, and perfecting garden ponds across the UK. And they kept running into the same problem: the pond liners available on the UK market were, bluntly, not good enough.
Too often, liners were sold without honest advice about where each one performs best. A liner that is right for a shallow wildlife pond is not automatically right for a deep koi pond dug into stony ground, and choosing the wrong one can mean a partial or total pond rebuild far sooner than expected.
So in 2009, we set out to do things differently. We stock both 0.75mm and 1.0mm EPDM and recommend the right one for your pond: 0.75mm EPDM, our standard rubber liner, for garden, wildlife, ornamental and goldfish ponds under 1.2m deep, and 1.0mm heavy-duty EPDM (1.02mm / 40 mil) for koi ponds, ponds 1.2m or deeper, large ponds, stony or root-filled ground and ponds with bottom drains or pipe fittings. We obtained EPDM-45 fish safety certification, because anyone keeping koi or ornamental fish deserves to know their liner will not leach harmful compounds into the water. And we built a business around the principle that the best pond liner is the one you never have to replace.
0.75mm or 1.0mm EPDM — Choosing the Right Thickness
Both thicknesses are good liners; they suit different jobs. This is how we advise customers:
- 0.75mm EPDM — our standard rubber liner — for garden, wildlife, ornamental and goldfish ponds under 1.2m deep. It is lighter and more flexible, so it folds neatly into shelves and curves. Lay it over 200gsm geotextile underlay.
- 1.0mm EPDM — our heavy-duty liner — for koi ponds, ponds 1.2m or deeper, large ponds, stony or root-filled ground, and ponds with bottom drains or pipe fittings. It is about a third thicker and more puncture resistant, but heavier and stiffer to install.
- Guarantees — each EPDM listing shows its own guarantee; our standalone 0.75mm and 1.0mm EPDM liners both carry a lifetime guarantee.
Our EPDM-45 certification confirms the material is safe for fish at all life stages — a standard that many budget liners cannot meet.
