Liner Placement Best Practice

- Position the liner centrally over the pond before lowering it into the excavation — do not drag it across the ground surface.

Edge Anchoring (Anchor Trench)
Correct edge anchoring prevents liner pull-back under hydrostatic pressure and during water filling. The standard method is the anchor trench:
- Excavate a trench at least 300mm deep and 300mm wide around the full perimeter of the pond at ground level.
- Fold the surplus liner into the trench, ensuring at least 200mm of liner is buried horizontally at the trench base.
- Backfill the trench with compacted soil or stone, or use concrete anchoring where the pond edge is exposed to mechanical stress.
- For raised ponds, the liner must be returned over the top course of the wall and fixed with timber battens or proprietary capping, ensuring the liner cannot be pulled down into the pond.
Water Filling Sequence
