When koi fish values, complex rockwork, or simply the desire for the absolute best motivate your pond build, 1.0mm EPDM is the answer. Its extra thickness gives meaningful additional puncture resistance compared with our standard 0.75mm liner, which makes it the right choice for koi ponds, ponds 1.2m or deeper, large ponds, stony or root-filled ground and ponds with bottom drains or pipe fittings. It is heavier and stiffer than 0.75mm, so allow extra hands and warm-up time when installing; for garden, wildlife and goldfish ponds under 1.2m deep, our 0.75mm EPDM is the more flexible, easier choice.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I still need underlay with 1.0mm EPDM?
A: Yes, always. Even with the heavier 1.0mm liner, geotextile underlay is essential protection against stone punctures, root penetration, and ground movement.
Q: What's the difference between 0.75mm and 1.0mm EPDM in practice?
A: The 1.0mm is noticeably heavier and thicker, providing improved puncture resistance. For koi ponds, ponds 1.2m or deeper, large ponds and stony or root-filled ground, 1.0mm is the recommended choice; for garden, wildlife and goldfish ponds under 1.2m deep, 0.75mm is more flexible and easier to fold.
Q: Can 1.0mm EPDM be seam-welded for very large ponds?
A: Yes. 1.0mm EPDM can be joined using cold-bond EPDM adhesive tape (preferred for DIY) or hot-air seam welding (professional). Contact our team for advice.
How Much Liner Do I Need?
Measure the longest length, the widest width and the deepest point of the pond, then for each direction:
Liner length = pond length + (2 x maximum depth) + 0.6m
Liner width = pond width + (2 x maximum depth) + 0.6m
The extra 0.6m gives a 30cm overlap on every edge for anchoring. Round up to the next available size; sizes work either way round.
Example: a 3m x 2m pond, 0.6m deep, needs at least 4.8m x 3.8m, so choose the 3.96m x 4.88m size.
