HDPE Pond Liners UK — Industrial Grade Geomembrane for Commercial & Civil Applications
HDPE (high-density polyethylene) geomembrane is the pond liner of choice for commercial ponds, SuDS attenuation ponds, irrigation reservoirs, industrial containment, and any application requiring a documented design life of 40–60 years with testable seam integrity. Our HDPE pond liners comply with GRI-GM13, the international benchmark standard for geomembrane quality.
Why Choose HDPE?
- Weldable seams: Hot-wedge fusion welding produces dual-track seams that can be 100% air pressure tested — providing documented proof of watertightness not possible with EPDM or butyl
- GRI-GM13 compliance: All material properties are tested and certified against minimum average roll values — density, tensile strength, elongation, puncture resistance, carbon black, UV resistance, and stress crack resistance
- Design life 40–60 years: Arrhenius modelling data from leading manufacturers supports 40–60 year field service life at UK ambient temperatures
- Broad chemical resistance: Resists virtually all acids, alkalis, and aqueous solutions — essential for SuDS, aquaculture, and containment applications
- Large panel sizes: HDPE available in panel widths up to 9m — minimises seam frequency on large ponds

HDPE Applications
SuDS Attenuation Ponds
HDPE 1.0mm with hot-wedge welded seams is the near-universal specification for LLFA-adopted SuDS attenuation ponds. Full CQA documentation available for adoption submissions. See our SuDS pond liner specification guide.
Agricultural Irrigation Reservoirs
HDPE 0.75–1.0mm for farm reservoirs and irrigation storage. Chemical resistance to fertilisers and agrochemicals. Reduces water loss from seepage by 90%+.
Aquaculture
Smooth HDPE 1.0mm for fish farm ponds and raceways. NSF 61 grade available for food production applications. See our aquaculture liner guide.
Commercial Ornamental Ponds
HDPE for large-format hotel, landscape, and public realm water features where weld integrity documentation is required.
Smooth vs Textured HDPE
Smooth HDPE: Standard specification for pond bases and slopes flatter than 3:1. Easier to weld. Lower cost.
Textured HDPE: Required on slopes steeper than 3:1 H:V to provide interface friction for slope stability. Interface friction angle 20–30° vs 8–12° for smooth.
